CORDILLERA ARTISTS CENTRAL AT SUMVAC 2014 MEETING

The Cordillera Artists Central through its representatives Joey Martinez and Joe Abawag has been invited to participate in the initial public hearing relative to the City Government’s programs and projects in relation to SUMVAC 2014. In the said event, Martinez and Abawag formally presented to City Councilor Elmer O. Datuin, SUMVAC 2014 Chairman of the SP Committee on Tourism and Special Events, Cordillera Artists Central’s letter of intent to have their activities be part of this year’s SUMVAC calendar of events.

Held last 25 February 2014 at the Session Hall of the Baguio City Hall, the meeting was attended by local government officials with different government agencies, non-government organization representatives, the private sector and members of people’s organizations.

In preparation for the 2014 SUMVAC in Baguio, Mayor Mauricio Domogan reorganized the SUMVAC working committees by issuing Administrative Order No. 009, series of 2014.

Emphasized in the Administrative Order No. 009, series of 2014 is the need to spearhead the conducts of numerous activities during the summer season, particularly from March to May, in order to provide varied attractions for local residents and tourists alike.


The Executive Committee of the SUMVAC 2014 is composed of Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan as Chairman, Congressman Nicasio Aliping Jr. as Honorary Chairman, Vice Mayor Daniel FariƱas as Vice Chairman, City Councilor Elmer O. Datuin as the Chairman of the SP Committee on Tourism and Special Events, and City Administrator Atty. Carlos M. Canilao as Action Officer.

The SUMVAC 2014 Operations Committee and their corresponding chairpersons are: Araw ng kagitingan, Liberation of Baguio and Kafagway – Councilor Peter C. Fianza; Summer Arts Expo, Cultural Show, National and Regional Summer Tourism program, Summer Sports activities – Councilor Elmer O. Datuin; Summer Health and Environment Programs – Dr. Rowena Galpo; Market and Exposition – Councilor Elaine Sembrano; Job’s Fair / Labor Day Activities – Dr. Estrella V. Bisquera; Communications Groups, Peace, Security and Traffic Assistance – PS/SUPT. Jesus D. Cambay JR., BCPO; Media Relations Search for Lucky Summer Visitors – Ms. Helen T. Tibaldo, PIA-CAR; Church/Holy Week Activities – Councilor Isabelo Cosalan Jr.; Barangay Fiesta – Councilor Michael Lee Lawana; Streamer Road Signs’ Maintenance – Arch. Johnny Degay; and, Physical Arrangements and Logistics – Mr. Romeo D. Concio, GSO.

The heads of the various committees have been tasked primarily to assure the proper implementation of the various activities set under SUMVAC 2014 as the concurrent Executive Committee members and to organize working committees, select individuals from private and public organizations and offices thatr would plan out and rationalize programs specially assigned to them.

The Summer Vacation (SUMVAC) in Baguio is an institutionalized annual endeavor undertaken by the City Government in partnership with different government agencies, non-government organization (NGOs), the private sector and people’s organization (POs).
